Light\u00a0\nfrom stained glass marks the backs of pews\n\nand I decide to continue to pray, so right away\u00a0\nI ask that the Brussel sprouts in my garden curl\n\ntheir small heads in that tender spot against\nthe stalk, safe from cutworms, cabbage worms,\u00a0\n\nthe diamond-backed moth. I pray\u00a0\nfor a pen that doesn\u2019t leak, for a closed tent\n\nin the forest of rain. Someone coughs.\nAsking for health would be fruitless, I think.\u00a0\n\nCells die everyday in the millions, sloughing off\nin waves, an invisible trembling spray.
